Microsoft Forms pre-filled link builder
Filling in a long form one box at a time is slow, and slower still with a screen reader. Microsoft Forms can open with answers already filled in from a pre-filled link. Paste one sample pre-filled link from the form, then let an AI such as Copilot write your answers and the link, or type them in yourself. The tool checks the link, then you open the form, check every answer and press Submit yourself. Nothing is ever submitted for you.
How it works, and what we found testing it: Filling in a whole Microsoft Form at once, with a pre-filled link.
Before you start
You need three things:
- A sample link from the form's owner. The person who made the form has to switch on pre-filled answers and send you one link. It takes them about two minutes. You can send them the message below.
- An AI chat, such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, to write the answers. If you'd rather type the answers yourself, choose Advanced mode and you won't need one.
- A web browser. There's nothing to install and no account to make. If the form is only for people in your organisation, you'll sign in to it as usual when you open it.
Message for the form's owner
Hi, Could you send me a pre-filled link for your Microsoft Form? It lets me load all my answers at once and check them before I submit. It takes about two minutes: 1. Open the form in Microsoft Forms, where you edit it. 2. Select the three dots (...) at the top right, then Get Pre-filled URL. 3. Switch on Enable pre-filled answers. 4. Answer every question with anything. "Test" is fine. For a grid question, use each column at least once. 5. Select Get Prefilled Link, then Copy link, and send the link to me. This doesn't submit a response, and your questions stay as they are. You'll only get my response when I press Submit. Thank you!
Examples
Step 1: The form
The form's owner makes this in Microsoft Forms: the "..." menu, Get Pre-filled URL, switch on Enable pre-filled answers, answer every question with anything, then Get Prefilled Link. You only need it once per form.
Open the form, select all, copy, and paste here. The AI uses it to see the question wording and every option, so its answers match the form.
Used as labels, so you hear "Question 2: Did you attend alone?" rather than just "Question 2".
One line "Sample link: " followed by the link, then one line per answer: "Question 1: Yes". Loading it reads the questions and fills in the answers.
Step 2: Ask the AI Done
Do this before step 3: copy the prompt below and paste it into a new chat with an AI.
What you want to say, in your own words. The AI turns it into answers.
AI prompt
Paste the prompt into a new chat in Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. It replies with your answers and a link.
Step 3: Paste the AI's reply Done
Do step 2 first: copy the AI prompt and paste it into a new AI chat. Then paste the AI's whole reply here.
The tool reads the link out of the reply, checks every answer against the form, and fixes what it can. If there's no link, it builds one from the answers.
Answers in the link
Change any answer, or add one the AI left out. The link updates as you go.
Step 2: Answers
Advanced mode has one box per question, further down. Type or change any answer there, or paste all your answers into the box below and choose Fill the answer boxes. When an example is loaded, the boxes show its answers.
Each answer starts on a new line with "Question", its number and a colon, for example "Question 3: Radio". Copy the prompt to get answers from an AI in this format.
Last step: Open the form
Open the pre-filled form (opens in a new tab)Check every answer in the form before you press Submit. An answer that doesn't match an option exactly is left blank, without any warning.
The link
Answers to paste by hand
For answers too long for the link. Each button copies one answer, so you can paste it into the matching box in the form.
Optional: Length test
Makes test links from about 2,000 to 32,000 characters. Open them shortest first. The longest one where the form opens and the answer ends with "End of test" is your limit. Test links never submit anything; close the tab without submitting.
Your answers end up in the link, so they are saved in your browser history. A private window avoids that, and also stops the form showing answers from an earlier visit. The tool itself sends nothing anywhere; only the AI you choose sees your prompt.
How to use it
The tool opens on one of four examples, picked at random: a team away day, customer feedback, a course evaluation and an event booking. Each is a made-up form with today's date, and its link opens a stand-in form that shows the answers filled in, so you can try every step without touching a real form. When you're ready, choose Start with your own form.
Basic mode lets an AI do the writing:
- Ask the form's owner for one pre-filled link with every question answered. Dummy answers such as "test" are fine. Paste it into step 1, and paste the form's text too if you can (open the form, select all, copy). Choose Read questions.
- Write your notes in your own words and choose Copy AI prompt. Paste the prompt into Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.
- Paste the AI's whole reply into step 3 and choose Check the reply. The tool reads the link, lists every answer under its question, and fixes hidden-space mistakes.
- Choose Open the pre-filled form. Check each answer, change anything that is wrong, then submit it yourself.
Advanced mode is for typing the answers yourself, pasting them all at once, or loading them from a text or Markdown file. It also has copy buttons for answers too long for the link, and a test to find how long a link the form accepts.
Choice answers must match the form's options exactly, and an option the owner typed with a stray space keeps a hidden character that has to match too. When the sample link used an option, the tool copies it exactly. Grid (Likert) questions can only use columns that appear somewhere in the sample link, so when making the sample, use every column at least once. File upload questions cannot be pre-filled.
Pre-filled links are a standard Microsoft Forms feature. The form owner has to switch them on, and the form always waits for you to submit. Nothing you type here is sent anywhere by the tool, which runs entirely in your browser.
